英文の仮名草子論文

●イギリスのニューカスル大学のラウラ・モレッティ氏から英文の論文が届いた。論文名は、日本語に訳すと「仮名草子新考―日本の大衆向け文学の始まり」というもの。５８ページの力作論文である。発表の雑誌は「Monumenta Nipponica」２０１０年、秋、６５巻２号。今、菊池先生にお願いして、「仮名草子研究文献目録」の「紀要・雑誌論文」の２０１０年に入れてもらった。

●ところで、英文で発表された、日本文学関係の論文は、日本の研究者によって利用され、活用されているのであろうか。理系の論文発表は英文が基本である。日本文学の研究も、英文の論文に対して、積極的に関与すべきではないかと思う。

●かつて、私はドイツのボーフン大学のエッケハルト・マイ博士から『浅井了意の東海道名所記―近世文学の一新ジャンルについて―』という著書を頂いたことがある。昭和５９年（１９８４）のことである。もちろん全文ドイツ語である。自分一人で眺めていては申し訳ないと、ドイツ語の辞書を買って、時間をかけて、序とあとがきを訳して（試訳であり、誤訳も多いと思う）、目次と共に『文学研究』第５９号に発表した。そして、著書は都立中央図書館へ寄贈して、誰でも読めるように処置した。

●今回、ラウラ・モレッティ氏から、力作論文を頂き、多くの事を教えられたが、同時に、私たちは、英文など外国語で発表された論文に対しても、留意すべきであると思った。
